Why Choose Place Corps?

Based on an 800-acre Biodynamic farm in Ghent, NY, Place Corps offers experiential learning opportunities to create change with multi-aged programming including: residencies, a fellowship, summer intensive gap program, and community learning. In our programs, you'll build your toolkit of practical skills and gain confidence in building and designing, living in intentional community [and living zero waste!], and growing food with regenerative practices. Come explore the Hudson Valley as a living classroom, be certified in Permaculture Design, experiment with sustainable practices, and collaboratively create cooperative systems. You'll emerge ready to know, love, and serve your next place in life. We began as an idea between Matthew Stinchcomb, Executive Director of Good Work Institute, and Martin Ping, Executive Director of Hawthorne Valley Association. Originally, Matt and Martin conceived of an educational program for young people; Dawn Breeze, artist, educator, and founder of Instar Lodge, joined the team as the third co-founder to actualize the initiative. The pilot year launched in 2019 with an inaugural cohort of 8 participants in an intensive residential gap year for 18-25 year olds teaching practical skills for radical living. In the process of the pilot year, it was recognized that our curriculum should not be limited to one program. From this reimagining, we evolved to offer multi-aged programming launching in summer 2020.
